Hey friends,
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t usually come up at church potlucks or political debates—but probably should.
My latest post dives deep into one of the darkest chapters in modern history: the twisted marriage between religion and fascism during and just after World War II (1941–1946). It’s called:
👉 “Under God, Under Control: The Rise of Religious Fascism in Postwar America (1941–1946)”

Now, before your eyes glaze over and you think, “Oh great, another dry history lesson,” let me stop you right there.
This one matters.
Because what happened back then—the way governments used religion to gain control, push propaganda, and silence dissent—isn’t just something buried in dusty archives. It’s happening again. Right now. In different packaging, but with the same toxic ingredients: fear, faith, and authoritarianism stirred into a dangerous brew.
💣 So what’s the post actually about?
In this piece, we look at how Nazi Germany used “Positive Christianity” to serve Hitler’s goals (spoiler: they tried to scrub the Jewishness out of Jesus), how Mussolini made deals with the Vatican, how Japan turned emperor worship into a state religion, and how churches across Europe responded—some with courage, most with silence, and a few by actively helping the bad guys.
Then we zoom out and ask: what does this all mean for us now?
Well, the warning signs are blinking red again:
-
Politicians blending religion and nationalism.
-
Religious leaders choosing power over principle.
-
Minorities being targeted with “holy” language.
-
Silence from the pulpit when truth is on fire.
This isn’t just history repeating—it’s history rhyming, and the tune sounds way too familiar.
🧠 Why should you care?
Because religious fascism didn’t start with jackboots and death camps. It started with small compromises. With good people staying silent. With churches choosing comfort over courage. And with citizens thinking, “It could never happen here.”
But it did. And it can again—if we’re not paying attention.
This article is part of a larger series I’m writing on religious fascism and its long, uncomfortable history. My goal? To shine some light in the dark corners where politics and faith get twisted together—and to help folks like you and me spot the warning signs before it’s too late.
So if you care about democracy, decency, and the difference between real faith and religious manipulation, give it a read. It’s long, yes—but it’s packed with stories, facts, and some uncomfortable truths we need to face if we want to protect what’s worth keeping.

Let me know what you think in the comments. And if it moves you, forward it to someone else who should read it. Because silence? It’s still the most dangerous choice of all.
Stay alert. Stay curious. Stay human.
